3D Realms’ Scott Miller Says There Will be More Duke Nukem

Scott Miller of 3DR in an interview in Gamesauce magazine (it’s new, I know – I haven’t heard of it before, has made some claims that Duke Nukem Forever’s future may be in question, but there will be more Duke games, some coming out within the next year.

Some outtakes from the interview on Shacknews:

"The next few years should see a strong resurgence in Duke,"

"There are numerous other Duke games in various stages of development, several due out this year. We are definitely looking to bring Duke into casual gaming spaces, plus there are other major Duke games in production."

"Almost all of these are unannounced,"

“Duke Nukem 3D was made for $300,000, and we made back 25 times our investment--not to mention all of the third-party Duke console games that sold well. Plus, we made a killing with Wolfenstein 3D. And we made the biggest killing on Max Payne! We made $30 million in royalties on that game (off of a $2.5 million investment), plus another $48 million selling the IP to our publisher. Oh, and we were also part owners of Gathering of Developers when that was sold to Take2. And finally, we have been pretty lucky with other investments, both in the stock market and in other studios.”

"I think I would have abandoned internal development six or seven years ago," he replied when asked what he would have done differently. "I much prefer to work with external studios to develop games, as we did with [Remedy Entertainment on] Max Payne and [Human Head Studios on] Prey. Radar [Group] is following this very model, with no internal development...it's much more cost effective for us, with lower risk."

So, to summarize, it looks like there will be new Duke Nukem games in 2010, some for casual audiences on mobile and handheld platforms, and maybe even some “major ones” too.

It’s interesting too to note how the fight with DNF is still going on, and that Scott says it’s not over, even though many others say it’s been cancelled or development has stopped, and even the Duke Nukem movie is still around. The last time I heard, they were thinking about getting Dwayne Johnson, the actor formerly known as The Rock, to play the part, but that may have been nothing but speculation. All we do know is it’s being produced by Scott Faye, who also produced the Max Payne movie.

Duke Nukem Forever D-Day Facebook Photo

It was reported the other day on Duke4.net that a photo was found on a Facebook page. This is one of possible future photos that will be posted on this page, under the album name “D-Day photos”.

At first people were sceptical, but it has been confirmed that Scott Miller is aware of this, and that he created the fan page.

dday

The photo seems to detail an EDF soldier (you can make this out by looking at the helmet and visor) shooting at a Cycloid Emporer, with what looks like could be the Ripper. The setting looks like the infamous stadium which you’ll remember from the Demo Reel video as well as Duke Nukem 3D.

It’s also being said that Scott Miller shared a new DNF trailer with Jeron Moore, the guy who had that Demo Reel v2 video up on vimeo. So, another trailer on the way? And this may well be the announcement regarding Duke that Scott Miller promised at one stage recently.

Apogee with More on ROTT Reboot Soon

Iwantyou

I was just reading this on Apogee’s Twitter account:

“Some big news about Rise of the Triad, be posted in the upcoming weeks. Some exciting Stuff!”

That’s cool! Originally, Scott Miller revealed this in an interview, and it was picked up by Big Download, and later covered by yours truly in two or three posts: that he and Apogee Software LLC had plans for this excellent, addictive classic, Rise of the Triad.

So, as you can see, it looks like they will be revealing more about the project, which was said to be a reboot of the series, in the coming weeks.

One thing that made me laugh a little was that there was a grammar error in the above sentence. Can you spot it? It should have said “will be posted”, but instead it was “be posted”.

Funny, I don’t remember pirates being in Rise of the Triad.

Aargh! there be some news posted about ROTT in the near future, aargh!”

Then again, it might well be because of the 140 character limitation on Twitter, you know.

Duke Nukem Manhattan Project Possibly Coming to XBLA

This is being speculated as being the announcement that Scott Miller hinted to on his Facebook page, and George Broussard on Shacknews.

It was found on one Rebecca Heineman's, nickname burgerbecky, LinkedIn Profile page, as well as some archived forum, by Gamerbytes, and was also covered on duke4.net.

Duke Nukem Manhattan Project wasn't a bad game. I've played it a few times over the years, but not for a while now.

It hasn’t been officially confirmed, but it would be a pity if it is, seeing as everyone’s hopes were raised, thinking that it could be something to do with Duke Nukem Forever. All Scott Miller has said apparently, is that the announcement was Duke-related, but didn’t say any further.

I guess soon we’ll find out what the announcement is for sure and probably from Shacknews. 3DR seems to like hanging out there.
