Max Payne 3 Delayed, Possibly to Slip into 2011

max-payne-3

“Sorry guys. Couldn’t make the party.” Bloody loser.

The latest financial results from Take-Two Interactive suggest that Max Payne 3, which was due for a release in 2010, has now been delayed yet again, with the publisher saying within that "the launch of Max Payne 3 has been moved out of fiscal 2010."

The game, in development at Rockstar Vancouver, was initially meant for a late 2009 release, before being delayed to 2010.

CEO Ben Feder:

“While we do not take the movement of any title lightly, our recent success with Red Dead Redemption illustrates the importance and the benefit of giving a title the time it needs in order to fulfil its potential in the marketplace. The team at Rockstar is focused on making this the best experience in interactive entertainment.”

The title does not appear in the company’s 2010 fiscal year, which ends on the 31st of October, and this means that it could see a very late Q4 release, but most likely it will make 2011 instead, according to some.

By the time the game gets out, it will be going on a decade since the last game, Max Payne 2, was released. The first game in the series came out in 2001.

Max Payne 3: Man on Fire – Similarities Seen?

Man_on_fire Maxpayne3

No, that’s not the subtitle of the game, rest assured, but I was just noticing some similarities between these said titles: the game Max Payne 3, yet to be released, and the movie Man on Fire released years ago.

Man on Fire starred Denzel Washington as John W. Creasy, a depressed, suicidal man, who after service in the CIA went into the private security sector for a wealthy family, and had to look after that little girl, played by Dakota Fanning, in Mexico City, Mexico.

MP

This screenshot from Max Payne 3 reminds me of some of the scenes from the film, Man on Fire.

When you look at Max Payne 3, Max used to be a cop in the NYPD but after the first two games, also goes into the private security sector for a local wealthy family, in a completely different setting – this time in São Paulo, Brazil, South America. And not to mention he’s also depressed, as well as being bald and scruffy looking. He lost his wife and child years ago, in the first Max Payne.

Just looking at the two titles, I couldn’t help but notice some similarities. Coincidence? Maybe. But Creasy didn’t have bullet time…

I guess we’ll see more when we play the game.

Major Video Game Delays for 2009

Well, BioShock 2 has been delayed, and so has Wolfenstein...and Mafia II, and Max Payne 3.

Jeez. cry

Old Wolfy will be delayed by a mere two weeks, but the others will be delayed by up to a year from now. Add to this the fact that an analyst predicts that StarCraft 2 will be delayed until next year as well.

Another interesting tidbit has been revealed, that the next GTA, possibly named GTA 5, has been under development for a while, and will be released in 2011.

Related news is that Alan Wake, a cousin of sorts of Max Payne (Max Payne was originally a project of Remedy, dev of Alan Wake, now it's Rockstar, dev of the GTA series), might not even make it to the PC. And it looks so good, too! evil

Game Sequels Aplenty: 3s Everywhere

There's an interesting trend I picked up on lately. Three series are getting new games in their franchises. And they all end with "3".

Firstly, Max Payne 3 will be released this year, and word has it that he's now bald, fat, and addicted to painkillers. And he now resides in South America instead of New York.

Battlefield 3 is in development, with Battlefield 1943: Pacific still to come this year.

Staying with the all out warfare theme, America's Army 3 is arriving this month.

Fallout 3: Point Lookout will be released this month as well.

And not even waiting for the second game to come out, Assassin's Creed III is all ready in development too. Wonder who the assassin is and where the game will take place this time?
