Apocalypse Then: Painkiller

On this day in gaming, back in 2004, the game Painkiller was released. It won Joystiq's coveted "Best Game of Every Year, Ever" award.

There were expansions, titled Painkiller: Battle out of Hell, and Painkiller: Overdose- a pseudo expansion that started out as a fan mod.

Another release, Painkiller: Black Edition, is a pun on the common term gold edition or version, this time replaced with black-referring to its dark content.

Recently it has been confirmed that Painkiller: Resurrection, the sequel, is on the way and will be released by the end of the year.
