Trine 2 to Arrive on PC as Well as Consoles

Trine Trine essentially means three in French, from what I’ve learnt. Now there’s going to be a Three Two, or Trine 2. That probably didn’t sound that witty at all, did it?

Reportedly, on the Frozenbyte Community Forums, rumours of a PC version of Trine 2 have been confirmed.

"Yes. And before anyone asks, it will come to PC in addition to any other platforms. That's all we can say right now."

They also say that the soundtrack for Trine 2 will be new.

Trine was a nice enough game I guess. It was a good way to pass the time, and was pretty to boot. Not to mention it also reminded me of some old games I used to play.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II Arriving on the PC

SWTFU2 The first Star Wars: The Force Unleashed game didn’t release on the PC, but made it to most other consoles out there.

Then Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition did make it to the PC with some added features that weren’t in the original, albeit more than a year later.

Now it’s been confirmed that the second game, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, announced late last year, will appear on the PC this time. The PC port is being worked on by Aspyr, who ported Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition to the PC.

The title should be released on October 26, 2010. Hopefully the PC version will come out at the same time, this time.

Alien Breed Evolution, Renamed Impact, Coming to Steam Today, Sequel in the Works

Alien_Breed_Impact

Alien Breed Evolution by Team 17, the makers of the original series back in 90’s along with the likes of Worms, came out last year for the Xbox 360 on XBLA. Nearly a year later, the PC is set to get a port of the game, but it’s been purposely renamed to Alien Breed: Impact. There’s word that the PS3 version will be named this as well. It’s good that the PC version will have more stuff than the XBLA one did, like upgradeable weaponry, co-op play, and a better campaign, naturally.

Martyn Brown, studio head:

“We’re always very keen to hear what our communities are saying about our titles and greatly consider feedback. For Alien Breed: Impact, it was great that we went back to the design and improved the game in many areas, meaning a much tighter gameplay experience for all.”

The game will be available to download off of Steam this week – today in fact: June 3rd. It retails for about $14.99 and if your pre-order it, you get 10% off that price, and a digital comic book - nice. There’s also a demo that you can grab off of there, as well as a trailer.

There’s also been word that a second game, called Alien Breed 2: Assault, is going to arrive sometime in the future, according to some ESRB listing. Right now, only listed for Xbox 360, the same thing is bund to happen where they port it to PC – perhaps a little sooner this time though.

Sega Classics Coming to PC Through Digital Distribution in June

ga

The Sega Genesis is regarded as one of the ultimate classics when it comes to gaming, and recently Sega has said that a number of the greatest hits to appear on the console are going to make an appearance soon on digital distribution outlets like Steam, and probably others too, like Direct2Drive.

One of these games will be Golden Axe. Hell, I remember playing that game a lot years ago. Others include Ecco The Dolphin, Sonic 3D Blast and Comix Zone – I remember that one too!

The PC versions of these games will arrive in early June this year [June the 1st actually], and will sell for as low as $2.99 each.

Dead Space 2 Coming to PC After All, New Screenshots and Trailer

DS1

The PC version of Dead Space 2 was in doubt for a while, but then some financial record was seen, and on it it said that a PC version of the title was scheduled for Q1 2011.

EA later confirmed that Dead Space 2 is in fact arriving on the PC, tweeting on twitter:

"Dead Space PC lovers can relax! Dead Space 2 is officially coming to PC."

The game is also arriving on consoles and handhelds next year, and EA wants to make sure that fans of the first game are happy with the sequel:

“One of the focuses of the development team is to listen to the various types of feedback.”

“We do different sets of focus testing, we’re always checking out our Facebook page to see what the community is saying, and we have to balance all that feedback, as you said, to make sure that the game comes out as the players want it.”

“One of our goals with the game, is to make sure that when we release it, is making sure that it surpasses what we did with the previous game. That’s important to us.”

“Also, another thing that’s important to us, is for the people that have supported us this long, that have been into the franchise, are happy with what we deliver.”

“So, we’re paying a lot of attention, we’re going back and forth as far as a lot of different tweaks and things that we’re going to do to the game to make sure it’s a game that people want.”

AAA - Now Playing: Doom 3

doom3AMS

True to my word, like I said the other day, I ended up installing Doom 3 again on my PC. I fished out the “Best of” DVD box that I bought for Christmas years ago, which saves me having to patch the game endlessly. I also installed a few mods, but I don’t know how many of them are actually working since at least on of them is a standalone one, not meant to be played with others.

But I am trying out AMS, or Allied Squad Marines, a mod which enticed me into playing the game again in the first place. Those dudes, like the one in the picture above, aren’t so smart it turns out, and will often not follow you like they should, or get stuck in walls, or fail to move out the way in a critical moment and you end up getting killed by a trite [spider thing], or they end up killing you by shooting you in the back, but anyway… fun.

When I first played the game years ago, brand new off the shelf, my system could only run it at medium in terms of graphical beauty. Now I can play the thing at ultra quality. That’s what I like about playing the classics. The characters are still bloody ugly though.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Coming to PC in June

BlazBlue It’s always good to see that a game that was previously console-only is ported to the good old PC.

That’s what’s happening with BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, as it’s set to arrive on PCs in the UK in June, as well as the PSP. I’ve done some looking up and it’s an anime styled 2D fighting game, or beat ‘em up developed by Arc System Works. It’s gotten good reviews for the console versions so far.

Now there’s no word of a US release date, but the good thing for us down south in SA is that European and UK release dates can usually mean that we’ll get it not long after.

Singularity Release Confirmed for June, 2010

singularity Singularity is a game that might have come out last year if it hadn’t been for Modern Warfare 2, which Activision pushed majorly. Singularity was said to have been kept back until 2010.

After some delays and so on, they’re finally going committing to a release date, which is June 29, 2010, and Activision has confirmed that the game will ship for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 simultaneously.

Singularity is a game developed by Raven Software, but unlike some of their other titles, mainly id Software creations, like Quake 4, and Wolfenstein of last year that both received a lukewarm reception at best, this is an original title that looks pretty good from what I’ve seen. It involves using time to overcome obstacles and defeat enemies.

There’s also been a new trailer released for the game too.

Video Games Coming out This Week [April 18-24, 2010]: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper

ShvJr

AAA’s Target of the Week: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper

No major releases this week. Quite quiet actually, but after nearly a year, the Xbox 360 version of Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper is coming out. The PC version came out last year in May. And I’ve always been such a fan of the legend – and who isn’t? Jack the Ripper gets his own video game. That cements his legacy and popularity right there. There’s even a branch of science or investigation called Ripperology. Did you know that?

Apart from that, there isn’t much to see. Admittedly, I haven’t seen or heard of most of these games before. Sorry. Slow week, yeah. Awkward…

Available links go to game detail pages at retail and digital distribution outlets like Amazon and Steam, etc.

You can also check my Amazon aStore to see the latest and greatest games released this year so far.

Saw II Video Game Coming, Coming to the PC, Maybe

saw The first Saw movie was quite chilling. Unfortunately it ended up being milked for everything it was worth as sequel after sequel came out, and it even ended up getting parodied in the Scary Movie series by the moronic Wayans brothers.

Then last year the series got its first video game, which was available for PC via digital download. I haven’t played it, but it apparently did well enough to warrant a sequel, arriving this year, named Saw II.

The game is set to be released for PS3 and Xbox 360, but there is supposedly a possibility of another PC release. The game is being developed by Zombie Studios, as was the prequel, and it will be published by Konami. Saw II is set between the second and third movie, story-wise, although some reports say it’s between the first and second.

Bloody hell.

Konami says:

"all-new stomach-twisting traps and puzzles, more visceral combat, and an all-new storyline that takes place between the second and third movie."

There. A trailer’s been released for the game as well.

Star Wars: Dark Forces Coming to the PS3 and PSP

Dark-Forcesr Star Wars: Dark Forces is a classic shooter that was released back in early 1995 for PC, Mac, and also the PlayStation in 1996 – although this port was disliked for some reasons like its poor framerate and graphics.

Star Wars: Dark Forces was really like Doom, but more technologically advanced, and featured the gruff Kyle Katarn as the playable character. I remember playing it for the first time years ago at a friend’s house.

Anyway, recently the ESRB “re-rated” [if that’s a word] Star Wars: Dark Forces for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable. And this means that the game will be releasing soon on PSN. The release date[s] however haven’t been confirmed.

Dark Void Zero Coming to the PC and iPhone

DarkVoidZero Dark Void was released for the PC earlier on this year, but also had a spin-off title called Dark Void Zero which was for the Nintendo DS only. But now it’s been revealed by Capcom that Dark Void Zero will be making its way to the iPhone as well as the PC, soon to be available on Steam – the digital distribution giant.

The game is set to come out on April 12, 2010, and the pricing for the games is said to be $3 for the iPhone version, and $5 for the PC version. Cheap, but then the game is a retro 8-bit styled title, and those who have played it said it’s most enjoyable, while Dark Void, it’s bigger brother, hasn’t done so well.

And although it won’t arrive at the same time, there are rumours that Xbox Live and PSN, for the Xbox 360 and PS3 [possibly PSP as well], might get the game too.

Darksiders is Coming to the PC in June

DS

Unusual this, but it seems as though the previously console only game called Darksiders, which was released in January, and raved about a hell of a lot this year so far, mainly because Mark Hamill form Star Wars did some of the voice acting I would guess, is coming to the PC.

I say unusual, because unless the game is released on PC at the same time as other consoles, say like Bad Company 2, the chances of a port coming to the PC is much less, in my experience.

I mean, how often do you see a hack ‘n slash title on the PC? God of War? Bayonetta? Dante’s Inferno? I rest my case. Those games are designed for some button mashing.

Well, Darksiders is reportedly getting a PC version in June this year, as was announced by THQ.

Vigil Games’ David Adams:

“We are really excited to have the opportunity to bring Darksiders to the global PC audience. We feel that the growth of digital distribution and PC online communities creates a great environment for our game. We are working really hard to make sure that key features such as user-defined resolutions, interface and both keyboard and game pad control sets are all up to the standards for today’s discerning PC consumer.”

Travis Plane of THQ:

“We are delighted to be able to bring Darksiders to the PC. THQ is focused on bringing great product to the PC gaming audience so it was vital that we allowed Vigil the time to optimize the title for the PC platform.”

The game revolves around War, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, as he takes on angels and demons.

Splinter Cell: Conviction – PC Version Delay, No Demo [News]

SCC

“Take this, you PC gaming scum!”

The PC version of yet another game gets sh1t upon, it seems.

Yes, the oft-delayed Splinter Cell: Conviction is going to be delayed once again – on PC. Instead of the “set in stone” release date of April 13, the game has been pushed back two weeks, and will now come out on the 27th of April, 2010. Apparently the listing on Amazon has confirmed this, and Big Download received confirmation from Ubisoft on the matter.

The Xbox 360 version of the game is still on track for April 13.

To add insult to injury, the PC version of the game won’t receive a demo either. The Xbox 360 version will.

Ubisoft community developer Li Kuo on Twitter:

"Sorry guys, tomorrow's demo is for X360 only. There are no plans for a PC demo."

And not to mention: this is a Ubisoft title. What does that mean, you ask? Ubisoft’s new rubbish DRM, requiring an always on connection, optimised for first world countries, and nobody else. That’s what.

Why, Atom*?

Alan Wake for the PC? No. For Real This Time.

AW1

“Alan Wake for PC! Where are you?!”

Alan Wake has been development for a hell of a long time, and years ago it was planned that it would make an appearance on the PC as well as the Xbox 360. Then it fell off the radar and seemingly into the abyss for a while before resurfacing a while later. Then last year the decision was left with Microsoft as to whether the game would see people playing it on the PC, seeing as Remedy didn't really seem to give a damn much.

But now the decision is final: Alan Wake will not be released on the PC after all.

"Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realized that the most compelling way to experience 'Alan Wake' was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive. Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform."

And I was just talking about it the other day to my brother, saying how good it looked. That it might just be the best horror game I’ve seen in quite a while. I personally think it’s rubbish – the whole explanation they gave. I’m sure Alan Wake would have fitted in quite nicely on the PC. It looks like nobody could really be bothered in the end.

Oh, well. Plenty of other non-exclusive titles that’ll hit the PC this year anyway.

No Dead Space 2 for PC? Maybe… Maybe not

DS1

Dead Space was a game that was highly recommended to me by at least two or three people. My brother liked it a lot, and one of the staff at NAG, when I e-mailed him, said it was very good- especially the in-game sound. Some even said it was like the System Shock 3 we never got.

Well, I played it, and true it was scary, and the sound was pretty impressive. But as a PC gamer, I might not get the chance to play the sequel, seeing as Dead Space 2 for the PC, at this time, is not in the plan and under consideration. Those are terms that have been thrown around regarding the subject.

Dead Space 2 will appear on the Xbox 360 and PS3, and possibly handhelds at some point, and it should be out early in 2011, somewhere in the first quarter.
