God_of_War_III(1) The Techno Times is a small insert that comes with the Cape Times every Tuesday or so, and they usually run competitions of sorts in some issues. The latest of these is a chance to win a PS3 250 GB along with God of War III. The console also comes with a controller.

All you have to do is SMS “PS3WAR” [sans quotation marks] to 34445, starting today. The competition closes on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 12:00 PM. Each SMS costs R2,00.

Note that this is for South Africans only.

Darksiders is Coming to the PC in June

DS

Unusual this, but it seems as though the previously console only game called Darksiders, which was released in January, and raved about a hell of a lot this year so far, mainly because Mark Hamill form Star Wars did some of the voice acting I would guess, is coming to the PC.

I say unusual, because unless the game is released on PC at the same time as other consoles, say like Bad Company 2, the chances of a port coming to the PC is much less, in my experience.

I mean, how often do you see a hack ‘n slash title on the PC? God of War? Bayonetta? Dante’s Inferno? I rest my case. Those games are designed for some button mashing.

Well, Darksiders is reportedly getting a PC version in June this year, as was announced by THQ.

Vigil Games’ David Adams:

“We are really excited to have the opportunity to bring Darksiders to the global PC audience. We feel that the growth of digital distribution and PC online communities creates a great environment for our game. We are working really hard to make sure that key features such as user-defined resolutions, interface and both keyboard and game pad control sets are all up to the standards for today’s discerning PC consumer.”

Travis Plane of THQ:

“We are delighted to be able to bring Darksiders to the PC. THQ is focused on bringing great product to the PC gaming audience so it was vital that we allowed Vigil the time to optimize the title for the PC platform.”

The game revolves around War, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, as he takes on angels and demons.

Video Games Coming out This Week [03-14 – 03-20, 2010]: Metro 2033, C&C 4, GoW III

On this day: 14 March, 2010 - Pi Day

             Metro2033Cc4tt

              GodofWarIII DAOA

AAA’s Targets of the Week: Metro 2033, Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight

With the games coming out this week, it’s no wonder Assassin’s Creed II got the hell out of the way, and came out last week. It would have had Metro 2033, C&C 4, and God of War III to contend with.

No doubt I can’t wait to get a hold of Metro 2033, which comes out on the 16th for PC and Xbox 360. It’s a post apocalyptic type game set in Moscow, Russia, based on the book of the same name, where the game’s characters spend most of their lives underground in the Metro tunnels. In the tunnels as well as above ground, there are horrors beyond belief, like your mutants and such, to combat.

It’s basically like Stalker in a way, but without the RPG elements, and not as open ended either. The experts say it plays more like a Call of Duty title. It will however feature multiple endings just like Stalker.

And then there’s Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, a PC exclusive. This is reportedly the final game in the Tiberian Saga of RTS titles, and from what I’ve read it’s not like any Command& Conquer you’ve played before.

Other big releases include the PS3 exclusive, God of War III, which has all ready been said by some who’ve played it to be a strong candidate for game of the year. And there’s Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening for multiple consoles, and expansion pack for Dragon Age: Origins.

To be honest, nothing excites me more than the aforementioned Metro 2033. I’m a big fan of the Stalker games and Fallout 3, and this sort of game appeals to me. It’s an original IP, unlike most of the other titles coming out this week, so it’s something new and fresh.

Links as usual go to game detail pages at Amazon, Steam, Direct2Drive, etc., where you can pick up the game of your choice or just browse.

Remember you can check out my aStore as well, where I’ve added the major releases under “2010 Games”.

Metro 2033 Release Date Confirmed, Limited Edition, No Pre-release Demo

Metro2

This is one of the games I’m looking forward to most in Q1 2010. On Metro 2033’s twitter account, it was revealed that the game would be released in the US on the 16th of March, the Oz version on the 18th, and the European version on the 19th.

I noticed something about March 16th. In addition to the whole of Q1 being crowded, March 16th also marks the date that the PC version of Assassin’s Creed II will be released, as well as God of War III.

There will also be a limited edition version of the game, which will include the automatic shotgun as an added weapon and as well as four art cards. but the bad news in all this is that there won’t be a demo for this title. But it looks as though it’s going to be good enough for your money anyhow, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

And they’ve also confirmed among other things on their twitter account that there is no multiplayer in Metro 2033.
