X-Com Games Week at GamersGate

Last week was Stalker Week over at GamersGate, but this week sees some classic PC games that are on sale. You can get both for under $3.00 each.

X–Com: UFO Defence, also known as UFO: Enemy Unknown, the very first title in the series, as well as the sequel, X–Com Terror from the Deep are featured as games of the week. Both titles are from the mid 90’s, and fall under one of the most popular TBS, or turn-based strategy, series of the time and perhaps all time. In fact a lot regard the original as one of the best video games ever.

So get them while the deal’s on.

Major Spring Sale on Direct2Drive, Up to 88% Off on PC Games

Here in the southern hemisphere, you might have realised that it’s now Autumn, or “Fall” as our American cousins call it. But, in the northern hemisphere, America included, it’s spring time.

Direct2Drive is suffering from “Spring Gaming Fever” and is running a sale for the occasion for the next 4 weeks, from April 12 to May 9th where you can get up to 88% on selected games. Some of these include Fallout 3, Dark Void and Call of Cthulhu, at $15 and $10 respectively. The lowest price reduction will be 50%, with some games going at 80% off and more.

Deals will change every Monday, with over 20 games in total getting a price drop. This week, there’s an Atari games bundle for $74.95, which has thirteen games that would normally cost $268.35 purchased separately. That’s nearly $200 off.

They also have a deal where if you spend $75 at the D2D store, you get $15 back in D2D cash - credit going towards other purchases that’s valid until June 8th.

Subscription Deals for Gaming Magazines

VGD Alert: BioShock & BioShock 2 for $50 at Amazon

This isn’t the first time such a package has been put together. For a while now, a deal has been on at Direct2Drive, which will let you get your hands on BioShock & BioShock 2… but at a price of $62.95

Now Amazon has a similar deal going on, but other than it being the retail versions and not the digital ones, the price tag is considerably less, at $50. All you have to do is add both games to your shopping cart, and you basically get BioShock for free, or one cent, if you’re really counting.

The conditions are that you can only do this with the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions, not the PC ones, and the Limited Editions don’t count either.

I haven’t yet played BioShock 2, but my brother says it’s good. I have played the first game, and I can say it’s one you shouldn’t miss.

Some Delicious Gaming Deals at Makro (SA Gaming)

For some time I had a feeling that the folks at LazyGamer were South African guys. The surnames of some of the writers gave me a clue, as well as the SA in the the LazySAgamer name in some posts. And the fact that there was a “.co.za” in the URL could have had something to do with the inkling I had too.

Well, I was right, and this post I noticed on there recently talked about some deals at Makro, which is essentially one big place where you can buy in bulk at cheap prices, kind of like the equivalent of  Wal-Mart, I guess.

At Makro you can get either Mass Effect 2 (PC) with a 4 pack of Red Bull, a Margherita oven pizza and a bar of Cadbury chocolate for R379, or BioShock 2 (PC), a 4 pack of Monster Energy Drink, a pizza and a bag of Willards cheese curls for $428. Both of these deals last until March 1, 2010, which will be next Monday.

As LG says, it’s a kind of deal that we haven’t really heard much about before when it comes to deals, but it makes sense I guess. Video games included in a combo deal including food. Can’t say I’ve seen that much before…

I mean, whole nut is my favourite kind of chocolate, and Ital pizza bases… I remember eating those years ago.

Local Video Game and Technology Deals at Incredible Connection

Today I received a brochure from Incredible Connection in the morning paper, The Cape Times. Yes, as it turns out, February is Trade-in& Upgrade month at Incredible Connection. I now remember this, because last year this time I went there and traded in my old CRT monitor and got a few hundred rand off of a 19” Acer LCD screen, which has given me no problems whatsoever so far in the year I’ve had it.

Now this year there are some new deals, and I’m going to just put a few of the ones that appeal to you and me here:

The one that will likely interest you is this one. You can trade in any console whatsoever and receive R500 off of an Xbox 360 Elite, which usually sells for R3199,95. The trade in price would then be R2699,95, and the Elite comes bundled with two games – Batman: The Videogame (not Arkham Asylum, unfortunately) and Pure.

So if you have an Atari 2600 lying around, you can get rid of it and get this. But from watching The Verge the other night, it seems some people still play with these old systems. Up to you…

You can also trade in any handset or cellphone and receive R1500 off of a BlackBerry Storm 9520. That’s another big deal.

There are other deals on cellphones, digital cameras, printers, monitors, and lots of other stuff. No PC or console games, though.

You better hurry though, because this Trade-in& Upgrade deal only lasts from today (Thursday, the 4th of February) until the 7th (Sunday). Only four days, but I seem to remember the last time it was longer. Oh, well.

Direct2Drive has all your Borderlands needs for PC.

They have Borderlands, Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Borderlands: Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, and the Borderlands + Dr. Ned Bundle.

Now they even have the Borderlands Triple Pack, which consists of Borderlands, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot. That’s the main game and the two (so far) DLC packs released for the game. I still have to hear of any other DLC packs that will come in the future.

Went Christmas Shopping, Got a Good Gaming Deal

Well, the Christmas tree has been put up, and of course now it’s all about the last few weeks before Christmas…and that means Christmas shopping.

I’ve been going through a lot of brochures lately looking for some good local game deals, and I did see a few which interested me.

So, off I went to the local mall, Tygervalley, and I was looking at some classic games. A lot of them have are available at between R49,99 and R99,99, and not just “old” games - games like BioShock, Mirror’s Edge, Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed and Resident Evil 4, good games that were released in the last two or three years.

I was looking at some of the good old games and I was tempted to just take them all (the mall, get it?) but I was looking for some games in particular; ones I hadn’t played before. I came across a good deal in Operation Flashpoint. It’s the full game, plus the two addons, Cold War Crisis and Resistance. A 3-in-1 deal for R49,99. I played the demos of these games years ago, but I haven’t yet played the full versions of these games after all this time. After being kind of disappointed with Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, I picked this up and bought it. I’ve read that the original is better than OFDR.

I still think that it was an odd choice, but I mean, at R50, if it doesn’t turn out to be so good, it’s no real loss to me.

I was also looking for a copy of Thief: The Dark Project, seeing as my disc isn’t working anymore, and I also want to get a hold of Deus Ex, ever since I saw it on Destructoid’s list of Top 50 games of the decade.

You know, I disagree with most of that list, but that’s life, huh?

I actually want to go back there with my brother or even on my own again, just to see if I missed anything, and perhaps pick something else up.

This month, Direct2Drive is having a sale where each day from the 1-24 December, there will be one game on sale, for 50% off. The sale for each game only lasts for 24 hours, seeing as there is a timer there counting down.

So far Mirror’s Edge was on sale on the 1st, and The Witcher yesterday, on the 2nd. Today Need for Speed Shift is on sale for $24.95 – half off (usual price is $49.95)

The clue for tomorrow is obvious: it’s something to do with Red Alert 3.

If you want to have a look at the big list of games, Savygamer (or Edgygamer, as some call it) has a list of the possible games included in the sale for this month. Pay attention to the comments though, because one of the guys has a better idea of what’s going on than the post itself.
