New Review Published: Dead Cyborg

Dead Cyborg Just this week I got my act together and published a new review, which has been sitting around for a week or two, practically finished.

It’s a review of Dead Cyborg, which was released late last month. I managed to play through it thoroughly over a couple of days recently.

Dead Cyborg is a donation based freeware title. How this works is the first episode of the game is released for free, as a teaser or demo of sorts. From there on, the next episode will only be made available once the donation meter fills up. And currently, Endre is looking to make $4000 dollars before releasing the second episode! That’s rather ambitious although he is all ready a third of the way there. I just wonder if I’ll ever get to review the second episode and beyond, though, with demands like that.

Dead Cyborg is a mix of old school text-based adventures, point ‘n click adventures and more modern sci-fi titles, such as the aforementioned System Shock games, BioShock, Fallout, etc. You can see several similarities in theme throughout the episode.

Anyway, head over to HubPages to check it out. I was going to publish this as one of my Thrifty Thursday pieces, but I much prefer HP for reviews because the layout is more customizable.

HubPages Turns 5 Years Old

August is a special month to me for two reasons. Firstly, it’s the month that HubPages was originally founded back in 2006, and the content publishing, revenue sharing website turned 5 years old just the other day. August is also the month when I joined HubPages back in 2008, and I received a notification email in my inbox the other day telling me that I’d been a member for 3 years now. I can hardly believe it!

I’m not as active on there as I was back in say 2008 or 2009, but I’ve been gradually trying to get back in to publishing hubs. I’m also revising, editing, and updating a lot of my old articles, too. After the subdomain switch the other day, I began this process, and I’ve been adding photos and other content to existing articles that are two or three years old. And it’s worked – I’m seeing a slight increase in traffic to hubs, overall. So it’s good to see that the effort is rewarded.

I don’t make it a point to cover every HubPages story out there, but I certainly do still read the weekly HubPages newsletters, the blog, and of course I log in to my account from time to time, and occasionally post in the forum. I just thought that this month is reason to celebrate for at least two reasons, as I mentioned above.

Published a new Article: My Best Undead Slaying Games of All Time

Blood For the past several days I’ve been working on a new series of hubs. This time it’s all about my favourite undead slaying games. It would have been about zombies, but everybody does zombies. I wanted something a little different.

Undead is a category which not only includes zombies, but also other supernatural beings such as vampires and ghosts, among others.

Published a new Article: My Top Scariest Video Games of All Time

l4d_airport04_terminal0005 I’ve been working on a new list for some time, and it consists of four articles in a series, which goes into detail about the scariest games I’ve ever played. I did this seeing as it’s Halloween soon. I published this series today.

These links will lead you to to the articles in question. It’s divided into four chapters, and the navigation buttons are at the bottom of each chapter.

New Article: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Could be the Death of the Series

stalker3 The other day S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was officially announced. I took the opportunity to publish an article the other day on HubPages that talked about how it might not be such a good thing.

The game’s engine is a multiplatform one, with console versions becoming more likely with the sequel, and part of me thinks it could end up being the end of a great PC exclusive series. Rough, raw, and largely unpolished… but still great. Here’s to hoping that the sequel actually comes through.

New Article: The BrotherHood – Celebrating Hoods!

Hoodie Day [12 August – NZ]

ThiefTDP I put up a new article on one of my HubPages profiles just lately. It’s been a while since I’ve done one. This one is called The BrotherHood: Hooded Characters in Video Games.

As you can tell, it’s about hooded characters in video games. Think Garrett from Thief.

I decided to put it up there as an article, seeing as there’s quite a lot of content to go along with it. I was initially going to post it here on the blog, but thought I would just do this short post talking about it instead and link to it.

There’s pictures of each of the characters mentioned, or most of them anyway, along with a poll to vote for whoever is your favourite. Games are mentioned in chronological order, right from ROTT in 1995, up to Thi4f, which is yet to come out.

I thought it was a good idea to to publish it now seeing as this week, on the 12th, today, is Hoodie Day. Well, in New Zealand, anyway, alongside the UN's International Youth Day. I started working on the idea about a year ago. It’s been sitting on my HD since then, and I was just waiting for this particular day to come along.

HubPages Turns 4 This Month, Partners with ClickTurn

hubpages_180-150 I’ve been a member over on HubPages for the last two years. It’s said to be one of the web’s leading content publishing sites – rivalling the likes of Squidoo, Helium and other such places, some of which may have been around for longer.

This month, HubPages turns 4. It was founded back in 2006 by the “two Pauls” – Paul Edmondson and Paul Deeds. There’s now a staff of several people, and not to mention probably a few hundred or even thousand people who are registered, and publish articles, or hubs, with the easy creation and editing tools.

HubPages likely has one of the better communities out there, and the user experience, interface, and so on is always being improved seeing as the HP staff and engineers are always listening to requests for features and other suggestions. It’s most definitely a website I don’t regret joining. They’ve made some great changes to the overall look over the past year or two.

Right now, HubPages is in the process of extending its revenue generating options. For some time now it has utilized Google Adsense, Amazon, EBay, and Kontera as a means for people to generate passive income from their hubs. This month they have begun a partnership with ClickTurn – a company which supposedly has a new and fresh approach to advertising with its interactive styled ads. These ads often have videos and links to Facebook and Twitter pages and the like embedded within. They look as though they’re more social than the usual ads have been up until now.

It’s a new company, but seemingly won over HP, with the promise that soon we will be able to use these ads on our hubs, either to supplement earnings with other programs, or as a replacement.

If you’re still not a member of one of the hottest places on the net, then you should join now and start with your online web presence and passive income generating efforts. Even if it’s just for backlinks to your blogs and so on. People on there have multiple reasons for joining – and staying. There are writers, photographers, artists, sculptors, and people in other professions from all walks of life. You’ll like it. Promise.

Happy Birthday HubPages, and here’s to many more years!hub_ani_160

Finally Reached 50 Hubs on HubPages

This week I was digging through some articles that I’d written long ago, and decided to post a couple in order to get to my 50 hub mark. I got a medal for that!

It wasn’t only to reach 50 hubs though – I also just wanted to get rid of these old articles, have them online and getting views instead of just sitting there gathering dust on my HD. So once I publish a few more of these old ones, I can focus on new ones entirely.

I also keep seeing a lot of people on HP with hundred of hubs and I thought, damn, I’d better start upping my game a bit, so I can get more page views and maybe earn some more.

Small Updates to Hubs Today

Well, today, in addition to uploading some more pictures for my latest, and still to be published, article, I also added some new small changes to the Classic Games and RRR hubs on my HubPages profile.

There's a new Amazon capsule that will be updated every now and again, which has my PotW in it. This week it's Borderlands. I'll update it every now and again, if there's actually something that I want to put in it.

I also updated the link list on the sidebar of each hub, which has links to all the hubs in their respective series.
