Assassin's Creed Renaissance Novel out now in the US

ACR It seems as though the long awaited novel based on Assassin’s Creed II, titled Assassin's Creed Renaissance, is out now in the US [1]. It became available this week, on the 23rd of February.

The 496 page novel is written by Oliver Bowden and it’s based on the game, Assassin’s Creed II, with Ezio Auditore da Firenze as the protagonist. Unlike the game, the novel is only set in 15th Century Italy during the Renaissance (hence the name of the book), and the modern day aspect with Desmond Miles does not come in to it.

“I will seek Vengeance upon those who betrayed my family. I am Ezio Auditore da Firenze. I am an Assassin?? Betrayed by the ruling families of Italy, a young man embarks upon an epic quest for vengeance. To eradicate corruption and restore his family's honour, he will learn the art of the assassins. Along the way, Ezio will call upon the wisdom of such great minds as Leonardo Da Vinci and Niccolo Machiavelli ? knowing that survival is bound to the skills by which he must live.To his allies, he will become a force for change - fighting for freedom and justice. To his enemies, he will become a threat dedicated to the destruction of the tyrants abusing the people of Italy. So begins an epic story of power, revenge and conspiracy. TRUTH WILL BE WRITTEN IN BLOOD”

                                                                – Novel Blurb on Amazon

Of course you can pick it up at Amazon as well as other places. In addition to getting it as a paperback, you can get the Kindle edition from Amazon as well.

Possible World War 2 Setting and Female Lead in Assassin’s Creed III

Okay, we haven’t even gotten Assassin’s Creed II yet, and their talking about the sequel to that game, Assassin’s Creed III. The only thing is, the guys are talking about making the third game set during World War II, and having a female assassin as the playable character.

This is just talk, and I don’t think it’s anything official yet, but I would NOT like to play this game. Why? Well, we don’t need another World War II game. That much is clear. There are nearly 200 of these and we don’t want another one. It would probably end up like the failed Velvet Assassin that came out earlier this year.

And about the female assassin thing: I don’t mean to be sexist or anything, but that might and might not work. We’ve seen from the Tomb Raider series among others that a female lead can indeed make a game, but so far we’ve had two male assassins in the Assassin’s Creed series (three if you count that Ben Stiller lookalike, Desmond Miles), and I’m not sure of the switch to using one of the opposite gender would go smoothly. The devs say they are looking for a time period where a female assassin would work, and WW II just happened to come up. But unless it’s something completely original, and it likely won’t be, it’s going to fail miserably.

Still, I can’t wait to get a hold of Assassin’s Creed II! The console versions should be out by the end of November, and the PC version only next year.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Will Have Sex in it: Because Sex Sells!

It’s been revealed that the game I was most looking forward to before the PC version was delayed until next year, namely Assassin’s Creed 2, will contain a bit of rumpy pumpy. I suppose this was to be expected, seeing as the game is set in Italy, and Ezio is a womanizer, a ladies’ man, as was revealed by Patrice Desilets months ago, and by this other guy, Benoit Lambert, recently:

"Ezio is a womanizer. There’s a bit of sex. I can’t say more."

So I guess Ezio will naturally look and act more flamboyantly than his predecessor, Altair, who had a bit of a stick up his butt.

It’s not known yet whether people will be flying off the handle about this type of content in a game, but I bet they will. I mean, there’s an age restriction there for a reason, and in this case it’s not just because of the violence and stuff, but now because of some couch rugby too. GTA: San Andreas’ Hot Coffee fiasco went on for years until recently when Take-Two settled their lawsuit for $ 20 million.

Why should adults get upset over sex in a video game if the game is only meant for adults anyway, and not kids? They’re a bunch of prudes, that’s why.

I mean if anything, this news should help sell the game possibly. Some have claimed that it's all a marketing stunt to get even more people interested in the game. I mean, this is the game that's competing with Modern Warfare 2 next month.

But, I can also reveal that there is a secret message hidden within the game’s title that says it all; that we should have expected this all along. Check this out:

Assassin's Creed 2 PC Version Delayed Until 2010

The other day we had news about Stalker: Call of Pripyat being delayed until Q1 1010, which I covered on Anomalous Artefact, my Stalker blog, which I've been posting on more frequently just lately.

Now, my fears have been confirmed about the title that I was most looking forward to this year: Assassin's Creed 2.

I was watching a trailer or interview about the game that featured Patrice Desilets, the creative director for the game, and wannabe playboy, and at the end he signed off by saying that "the game will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 this year in time for the 'oliday season, on November 17th."

He didn't mention PC anywhere in there, and so I got suspicious, until I read a news piece confirming it. The console versions are still set for this year, but the PC version will be next year, with the excuse: "a bit more time for the dev team to deliver the best quality game to you."

I was looking forward to this game more than Modern Warfare 2. Yeah, I said it.

Did Altair from Assassin’s Creed rip off Michael Jackson?

Some people have suggested recently that Ezio from Assassin’s Creed 2 looks like a backup dancer for Prince.

Now I have looked at a picture of Michael Jackson on the front page of the Sunday Times this past weekend, and I couldn’t help but think- that looks like Altair, or rather, Altair looks like Michael Jackson.

Take a look at this picture. Look the grey trousers, and the white shirt, and then take a peek at Altair. Then look at the BOOTS!

Assassin’s Creed 2 Concept Art

I’ve scanned a few images out of the May Edition of NAG magazine, which has an “exlcusive” interview on Assassin’s Creed. The other pictures that were there you’ve most likely seen.
If you haven’t, then check here:

http://www.n4g.com/News-320974.aspx

There have been quite a few new screenshots for Assassin’s Creed 2, depicting the protagonist, Ezio, being able to fly, and not just by jumping off of buildings, but by using some flying contraption resembling a pair of bird’s or dragon’s wings. Another few have him diving into or swimming in the canals of Venice- at least he doesn’t drown like that wimp, Altair. Perhaps after scaling viewpoints to get more info on the map, he can dive into the canals instead of having to look for those straw piles- and missing when he falls.

Assassin’s Creed 2: The New Assassin

Altair                                                          Ezio

Lately, a picture of the proposed protagonist from Assassin’s Creed 2 has been doing the rounds. It was originally posted on the Ubisoft forums, and that post was later deleted and the picture sent all around the internet- tough luck Ubi.

Apparently our man is a nobleman from Florence named Ezio Auditore de Firenze. Ezio- sounds almost like Enzo (Ferrari).

You can see he has a typical Latino or European style going on with the open shirt, the cloak, and the billowing white shirt, oh and not to forget- the grey hood with the peak like an eagle’s beak. He also has the typical chains around the neck that hang onto his bare chest.
You’ll also notice that this character has two hidden blades, and he hasn’t had to sacrifice one or two of his fingers this time. The boots are also higher- up to the knees.

There’s a good chance this could change though through development. Altair likely went through some changes before it was time to release the game.

Other details of the game include the date- that the game takes place in 1476, and that NPCs include Da Vinci, Machiavelli, and the Medici family. So there might be some Middle Ages Mafia action here.
