Reinforcements Have Arrived: Metro 2033 and GTA: Episodes From Liberty City

     metro2033002GTAEFLC003

How did you like the Worms reference? Remember that? Anyway, I got some new games over the weekend: Metro 2033, and GTA: Episodes from Liberty City.

I bought Metro 2033, only to discover that it came bundled with one of THQ’s other games, Red Faction: Guerrilla, which I bought last year. I could have saved a bit of cash there I suppose. It’s also ironic that I was playing RFG the other day, and yet now it doesn’t work. Weird. Probably making way for Metro!

The other game, GTA: Episodes from Liberty City, includes the two DLC packs for GTA IV: The Lost and Damned, and The Ballad of Gay Tony. Admittedly, I didn’t get around to playing GTA IV, but I saw that this DLC bundle is standalone, and doesn’t require GTA IV to be installed. So I got that as well.

Red Faction TV Movie Coming, Possible TV Series to Follow

RFl I’ve been playing the latest Red Faction offering, Guerrilla, for the past week or two, and enjoyed it so much I decided that this little piece of news was worth covering.

Reports say that THQ, the publisher of the Red Faction games, has made a deal with the SyFy channel to produce a two hour, direct to TV movie based on the Red Faction series of games. If this gets a lot of attention, it could mean a full on series.

SyFy Ventures senior VP Alan Seiffert:

"It is the kind of content that fits our genre. It is a great fit for a big Syfy Saturday movie, and if it really works, it is a great back-door pilot."

"Both 'Ghost Hunters' and 'Red Faction' are great examples of how we are absolutely committed to gaming, and it is going to be more than just taking the name, it is going to really be part of the overall experience.”

In addition to all this, it’s been said that SyFy will be involved with the next Red Faction game, possibly as a co-developer with SyFy Games, rumoured to be titled Red Faction 4.

Will we see this in SA? Seeing as Ghost Hunters airs on the M-Net Action channel on DSTV [Channel 106 – previously known as Action-X], Red Faction will likely show up on the same channel some time. I’m thinking that a Red Faction TV series could work. Then again, so could a Half-Life 2 one. They’re more similar than you think.

Crysis 2 to Feature the Big Five… Things You’ll Remember Forever

crysis2

Crysis 2 was featured in Edge magazine recently, and details of the game have leaked on to the net. The game is reportedly going to feature five big memorable things that will stay with you long after you’ve featured the game.

We all know that the game will take place in New York city now, and that the player will have access to the Nanosuit 2. One of the things talked about is that this isn’t just the New York seen plenty of times in movies and other games. This is going to be Crytek’s own “unique New York”, set three years after the first Crysis, and thirteen years from now, making it 2023, I would guess.

They also mentioned in the interview, destruction and scarring of the environment. Could this be like Red Faction or F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin?

Nanosuit 2 will naturally see some upgrades, like X-ray vision, Tactical mode, and bullet deflection. X-ray vision sounds good, and come to mention it so does Tactical mode, seeing as they claim it enhances your hearing in the game so you hear even the slightest of sounds. And it also improves your HUD capabilities.

In any case, there seems to be a lot of “unique” being thrown around. Some claim that New York isn’t entirely original, seeing as some games like Max Payne took place in the city, as well as Turning Point, but not a hell of a lot others.

The game is expected to release by the end of the year, somewhere in Q4, 2010, likely December, hopefully in time for Christmas.

Thinking of What Games to get for Christmas

The other day I posted about getting the Operation Flashpoint: Game of the Year Edition for R50. But now I’m thinking about what I can get as far as new games go.

Seeing as I’ve seen headline after headline in my feeds about ‘Best of 2009’ lists, I thought this would be a good place to start. I also came across a thread over at the NAG forums which talked about people’s favourite games of the year. I find this to be more personal opinion than a lot of these lists which are made just to appeal to others.

I’ve narrowed it down, and I think I might run a poll on this too, to these games. These seem to be the best games of this year for PC, and I suppose I might pick up one or two:

Red Faction: Guerrilla – a good game but not brilliant apparently; good physics.

Fallout 3: GOTY (Fallout 3 with all 5 DLC packs: Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, Mothership Zeta) – this has been on my mind for quite a while. I haven’t played the last three DLC packs yet.

Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition – some say it’s good, others say it isn’t. It’s been a while since I’ve played a SW game anyway.

Resident Evil 5 – I haven’t played a RE game in years either.

Batman: Arkham Asylum – This is surprisingly being referred to as one of the best of this year. I’ve never really been a fan of comics and superheroes (not for years anyway), but if they say it’s that damn good, maybe I’ll check it out.

L4D2 – more of a multiplayer fanatic’s game, but from what I’ve seen it might be a bit of fun. I still haven’t the original.

I’ve all ready got these games:

Borderlands – this is one of the breakout hits of this year, and I’ve all ready got it. It’s a bit buggy though, so I haven’t been able to finish it.

Modern Warfare 2 – I was somewhat disappointed with the rather short campaign, but I should expect this from a CoD game anyway.
