Apocalypse Then: Area 51
On this day in gaming, in 2005, Area 51 was released.Area 51 is a loose remake on the 1995 light gun video game of the same name, which was released in 1995. It features the voices of David Duchovny (X-Files, Evolution), Marilyn Manson, and Powers Boothe.
It is now available as freeware- made possible by the United States Air Force (not a joke).
Between the two games, in 1998, Area 51: Site 4, another light gun arcade game, came out.
The latest game in the series, after the 2005 remake, is Blacksite: Area 51, made by Midway, now in dire straights, financially.

I've just finished a new RRR article on HubPages.com, and it's called Games of 2008: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky."I have played S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky on two different occasions. The first time was when it was still very new and with limited support in the way of patches. I surfed the internet for weeks looking for fixes made by fans of the game. I even outright declared on a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. forum that I hated the game due to its unpolished nature and the many bugs that prevented me from enjoying the game."

Anomaly: Square Enix Taking Over Eidos
Square Enix has taken over the publisher, Eidos. Eidos is apparently under Eidos plc, a subsidiary of Square Enix.This means that Square Enix, a Japanese company famous for Final Fantasy, will have control over series like Tomb Raider, Hitman, and Thief.
Other games from this publisher include Commandos, Deus Ex, Legacy of Kain, Timesplitters, and Fear Effect.
Apocalypse Then- Cossacks: European Wars
On this day in gaming, in 2001, Cossacks: European Wars was released. It received two expansion packs, Art of War, and Back to War, as well as a sequel, Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars, as well as several spin-off titles. These games were all developed by GSC Game World, now noted for its S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series of games.

More on GOG's Fallout Week
There's new stuff to be had when you complete (buy) the Fallout collection at GOG.com. The bonus content for Fallout is expanding with the addition of another great soundtrack and the owners of Fallout: Tactics can now download Fallout: Warfare - a paper and pencil wargame set in the Fallout universe.
There's also Fallout competitions as well as a bonus unlockable mission for Fallout Tactics.

Powerless Again
Today I struggled with a lack of power again. This time it was the earth leakage that kept tripping because of the massive thunderstorm that was hanging overhead. The rain was obviously getting onto some exposed wires outside or in the roof. Now we’ll have to get the house re-wired which will cost a heck of a lot, probably.

There's a new site called gameanswers which is basically like yahooanswers or something similar except it's all about gaming. The site, which is in beta stage, has the aim of providing you with a place to find all the answers to questions or problems you have instead of having to google for it, or comb forums and technical boards all the time. Randy Pitchford’s Birthday Today
Randy Pitchford, the CEO, president and co-founder of Gearbox Software, turns 38 today. He was born on April 21, 1971.
He first became known on a global scale for his production and direction of Gearbox's debut title, Half-Life: Opposing Force, the first expansion for Half-Life. There's even an easter egg in the game that pronounces his name backwards.
Other games that Randy has had some hand in are:
Duke Nukem 3D, Duke Nukem Atomic Edition, Duke Nukem 64, Shadow Warrior, Half-Life: Blue Shift, Half-Life for PlayStation 2, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, James Bond 007: Nightfire, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Halo: Combat Evolved for PC, and the Brothers In Arms series.

Demigod Piracy is Pitiful
Apparently out of 140 000 users online playing Demigod recently, only 12% of those were legitimate users. That means that 123 200 people had pirated the game, and this was day 0! But if you think about it, Stardock is opposed to DRM or any form of copy protection...
So go on, do the right thing. Buy a copy of Demigod and support Stardock and the industry.

Apocalypse Then: Columbine High School Massacre
This is the big one. It’s probably the most widely known and documented school shooting in history, even above the Virginia Tech Massacre, which resulted in more deaths, which occurred a few days ago, on the 16th. On April 20 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 people and injured 24 at Columbine High School before each taking their own lives.
Harris and Klebold were unpopular and frequent targets of bullying at their high school, described as outcasts.
Other people said that Luvox, the drug that Harris was taking, was to blame seeing as he had abruptly stopped taking it and that it could lead to aggressiveness.
