Video Games Coming out This Week [03-28 – 04-03, 2010]: DSi XL, Prison Break

PB

Prison Break: The Conspiracy is one of the major releases this week. But we all know it’s not going to be that good of a game when it’s played. I just don’t see it being a critically-acclaimed title. Most games based on movies and series aren’t. Fans of the series might well enjoy it though.

Besides that, a new console comes out this week: The Nintendo DSi XL – and some aren’t happy about another handheld entering the market.

A good pack to pick up as far as classic PC gaming goes, is the Commandos Complete pack, which has every Commandos game ever made in it: Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, Commandos: Beyond The Call of Duty, Commandos 2: Men of Courage, Commandos 3: Destination Berlin, and Commandos: Strike Force. I can recommend anything up to Commandos 3, but Strike Force I haven’t played, and I’ve read it’s not that good.

Available links go to game detail pages at Amazon, etc.

New Prison Break Screenshots

Speaking of adaptations, instead of game-to-film, I've just had a look at some new screens for the Prison Break video game, based on the first season of the series- the best one, and it should have been the last, too.

This game takes place in Fox River penitentiary, except you play as a guy named Paxton, instead of Michael Schofield. Several characters from the season will make an appearance though. I recognize the guy with the white doo-rag. I never liked that guy. Belic is there. He was a pretty convincing bad dude. And Link is there. Hi Link. rolleyes

Clearly this game is going to suck, or it will be one of those typically average games. I reckon there probably won't be any of the voices familiar from the series, or very few anyway. In my mind, it likely won't measure up to The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay.

New Resident Evil Film, Afterlife, Coming Next Year

*Groan* neutral

There’s going to be another Resident Evil film coming next year, called Resident Evil: Afterlife. The movie has also been confirmed as 3D.

The cast is getting Wentworth Miller from Prison Break as well, to play Chris Redfield. Well, I suppose the movie needs eye candy for the ladies, since the guys have had Milla Jovovich to ogle for years now. Yes, she will reprise her role as Alice. There’s this TV critic and cynical witch locally, named Nikki Temkin, who couldn’t stop going on about how “beautiful” Wentworth is at one stage.

The Resident Evil movies are nothing that an artsy fartsy type would love, It’s just a mindless series about zombie killing that likely won’t ever match up to the games. I watch them, but only when they come on TV. I don’t bother going to the theatre or even hiring it on DVD.

Prepare for Rapture Break: Wentworth Miller in Bioshock?

Wentworth Miller 2008Wentworth Miller, The British born actor who played the tattooed Michael Scofield in Prison Break, tweeted something like this: “Prison Break may be ending, but I’ve got things in the works. Hint…one word: Bioshock.”

His Twitter page is now down for some reason - perhaps for leaking info...

What he's talking about though is anyone's guess. He could be talking about the BioShock movie, directed by Gore Verbinski and currently halted, BioShock 2 - the game, or the Bioshock novel.

Maybe now that Prison Break's Fourth Season is over and it is no more, he has time to play the original BioShock - who knows?

Prison Break: Season 1 was great, season 2 was okay, and I could care less about season 3 and 4.

Some people don't seem too keen on the idea of Wentworth in BioShock. Maybe it's because of the rumours of his sexual preference. Doubt it's true because so many women keep harping on about the man.

Let's say that Wentworth does star in BioShock. Who else would we like to star in the movie?
I think that Tom Hanks would make a good Andrew Ryan. Any bald guy could be Fontaine, like Kevin Spacey when he was in Superman. Rachel Weiss or Keira Knightly could be the beanpole, AKA that German broad, AKA Tenenbaum.

Other comments on this story that made me laugh:

"Wonder if he's already running around his house, in his jammies, shouting "BBZZZZZ" at the postman as he pretends to shoot bees out of his arms..."
