Release the Payload: Bad Company 2, Supreme Commander 2 [Major Releases]

             Bc2 SC2

Today marks the release in North America of the much anticipated Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Unlike the first game, this one will be making an appearance on the PC as well as the consoles, which got the first game too (lucky s@ds).

This game is also said to be ditching much of the humour seen in the first game, and taking a more serious approach.

I’ve said it time and time again: this game is looking good, and I actually can’t wait to play it. And that’s how it’s been with most other Battlefield titles. Looking at the reviews so far, it looks as though that excitement is way more than justified.

I saw something the other day which might interest you by the way. This game looks as though it’s going to be quite a gun fanatic’s paradise, not unlike Modern Warfare 2, and MTV Multiplayer had a list on their blog the other day which detailed a whole bunch of weapons and what it would take to unlock them. Just looking at this list made me salivate, seeing as all the favourites are there: the M16A2 Assault rifle, the M249 Light Machine Gun, and more.

Another game that might interest some is the sequel to Supreme Commander, Supreme Commander 2, no less. It’s an RTS title that takes place 25 years after the first expansion to the first game. I know why I don’t sound particularly enthused about this title: it’s because Command& Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight will be out this month.

I don’t know if I’ll be bothered with this one. The reviews say it’s quite good.

Release the Payload: Aliens vs. Predator [Major Releases]

Aliens_vs_Predator_coverToday, the 16th of February, marks the day that Aliens vs. Predator comes out. It’s the long awaited reboot of the franchise, and the first major AvP game since AvP 2, which was released sometime in late 2001 – and that one wasn’t even by Rebellion, but by Monolith.

Rebellion was responsible for the first game, which was tons of fun, perhaps a little short and linear in my opinion, but still – it was considered a great that rivalled games like Quake II and Unreal in its time, even graphically.

The United States will get a hold of AvP today, with the UK version coming later on in the week, on Friday the 19th. The Aussie version will be on the 18th.

So far opinions on the game are mixed. There’s apparently been some negative reviews and some positive. Some consider it an average game. But those are the critics, and we know what they’re like. Besides, those reviews seem to be for the console versions primarily. Now it’s released, I guess we’ll get to find out for ourselves.

You can pick up Aliens vs. Predator for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on Amazon if you haven’t all ready. There are even special Hunter editions for the console versions.

Otherwise the only alternative if you’re looking to download it via digital distribution sites would be Steam, seeing as others like Direct2Drive have boycotted it because of its branding as a SteamWorks title.

Release the Payload: BioShock 2, Dante’s Inferno

image image

Well, BioShock 2 should be out today, and will no doubt thrill a lot of people. Reviews so far indicate that the game is a successful and worthy sequel to the original.

The game is supposed to be out today, the 9th of February, in North America, but I was listening on The Verge the other night, and Pippa said it would be out in South Africa on the 11th, which is Thursday. She also talked about some competition coming to The Verge, where there would be some giveaway of a BioShock 2 Collector’s Edition sometime. So make sure to watch The Verge this week, and get the details.

The Verge appears on Vuzu, Channel 123 on DSTV, and to win these competitions you usually have to SMS or text from your Vuzu account online to stand a chance.

You can order BioShock 2 on Amazon for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. You can also get the game at Direct2Drive, and the offer is still on where you can get both BioShock 2 and BioShock 1 and save 10%, but I doubt it'll last long.

Another game that releases today for consoles in America is Dante’s Inferno, although other territories like  Europe and Australia should all ready have it. Reviews for this game have been lukewarm to good, with critics saying it’s really just a God of War clone and doesn’t bring much originality to the table, but it’s still worth playing if you’re a fan of the genre.

You can pick up Dante’s Inferno from Amazon for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PlayStation Portable.

Release the Payload: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat [New Releases]

        SCoPSTOWKC

At the beginning of the week I had a post up about all the games that would be released this week, and this is just a follow up post detailing worthwhile games that should be released today (they aren’t always).

Today sees the release of a game I’ve been dying to get since I finished Stalker:Clear Sky for the second time last year: Stalker: Call of Pripyat.

Despite some interest, I can’t help but feel that this one has been overlooked slightly because of the following titles. I guess if you’re an MMO freak, or a console person you won’t like CoP seeing as it’s a PC exclusive. By the way, the European (UK, Scandinavia, and Italy) and Aussie versions will follow later this week, on the 5th, and I’ve even read that the game will be released in Greece too, and the publisher will be hell-tech.

Also out today is White Knight Chronicles and Star Trek Online.

You can get the following games from Amazon (check my Amazon aStore to save time) and Direct2Drive if you haven’t all ready.
