Darksiders PC Delayed a Few Months

Youth Day [SA]

Darksiders There was good news earlier on in the year which concerned Darksiders. A PC port of the console game was scheduled to arrive sometime this month, and would be developed by Vigil Games, while published by THQ.

But now listings at retail and digital distribution outlets seem to say otherwise: the game is pegged now for a release sometime in September, with Amazon saying September 16, 2010.

Jack Friedman, THQ Founder, Dies at 70

jackfriedman THQ is a major publisher of video games in the United States, and its founder, Jack Friedman, passed away recently, at the age of 70.

Jack, in addition to founding THQ, also founded LJN and JAKKS Pacific.

JAKKS Pacific CEO, Stephen Berman:

"Jack was a legendary toymaker and a real titan in our industry. He dedicated his talents to JAKKS Pacific for 15 years, and he will be sorely missed."

Jack retired some time ago to spend more quality time with his family, but was hospitalized for several weeks before his death in early May.

Darksiders is Coming to the PC in June

DS

Unusual this, but it seems as though the previously console only game called Darksiders, which was released in January, and raved about a hell of a lot this year so far, mainly because Mark Hamill form Star Wars did some of the voice acting I would guess, is coming to the PC.

I say unusual, because unless the game is released on PC at the same time as other consoles, say like Bad Company 2, the chances of a port coming to the PC is much less, in my experience.

I mean, how often do you see a hack ‘n slash title on the PC? God of War? Bayonetta? Dante’s Inferno? I rest my case. Those games are designed for some button mashing.

Well, Darksiders is reportedly getting a PC version in June this year, as was announced by THQ.

Vigil Games’ David Adams:

“We are really excited to have the opportunity to bring Darksiders to the global PC audience. We feel that the growth of digital distribution and PC online communities creates a great environment for our game. We are working really hard to make sure that key features such as user-defined resolutions, interface and both keyboard and game pad control sets are all up to the standards for today’s discerning PC consumer.”

Travis Plane of THQ:

“We are delighted to be able to bring Darksiders to the PC. THQ is focused on bringing great product to the PC gaming audience so it was vital that we allowed Vigil the time to optimize the title for the PC platform.”

The game revolves around War, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, as he takes on angels and demons.

System Specifications for Metro 2033 Revealed

THQ has the system specs for Metro 2033, due for release next month. I picked up the announcement on twitter.

Minimum:

  • Dual core CPU (any Core 2 Duo or better will do)
  • DirectX 9, Shader Model 3 compliant graphics cards (GeForce 8800, GeForce GT220 and above)
  • 1GB RAM

Recommended:

  • Any Quad Core or 3.0+ GHz Dual Core CPU
  • DirectX 10 compliant graphics card (GeForce GTX 260 and above)
  • 2GB RAM

Optimum:

  • Core i7 CPU
  • NVIDIA DirectX 11 compliant graphics card (GeForce GTX 480 and 470)
  • As much RAM as possible (8GB+)
  • Fast HDD or SSD

Enabling 3D Vision
Metro 2033 utilizes NVIDIA 3D Vision with compatible cards and hardware. To play in 3D you will require:

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 and above recommended
  • A 120Hz (or above) monitor
  • NVIDIA 3D Vision kit
  • Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7

“We also recommend the biggest and best monitor you can afford, and a home cinema kit or surround sound headphones!”

Those are some pretty steep specs. They say it’s bleeding edge tech in this game, and I believe them when I look at these.

Metro 2033 to have Support for DirectX 11 and 3D

I saw it all on Twitter just now, and then saw the screenshots. Metro 2033 on the PC is going to have support for DirectX 11 and THQ has confirmed that it will have NVIDIA 3D Vision support as well.

There are some Hi-Res shots posted on FlickR for you to see.

So, Metro 2033 will be one of the first games this year, alongside AVP and Stalker: Call of Pripyat to support DX 11.

The game should be out next month.
